"Roots and Wings"

There are two lasting gifts we can give our children--
one is roots, the other is wings."

VISION, MISSION AND VALUES OF THE VERLIN HATCH FAMILY

Vision: A united family with "no empty chairs".

Mission: Building a strong family with both "Roots and Wings", founded on the teachings of Jesus Christ, with a sense of belonging to a family now and in eternity--roots to provide a sense of belonging and wings to excel in personal growth and discovery.

Values:

Self Worth: Each family member senses their self worth and feels secure in their position in the family, knowing they are a beloved son or daughter of both earthly and Heavenly parents.

Family Unity: Each family member is valued and appreciated for their individual strengths that add to the whole, lending to a sense of belonging.

Unconditional Love: We all make mistakes, but are still loved in spite of them. There is no "Junk" here. Each one will be lifted and the family will be strengthened as we apply principles of repentance and forgiveness.

Service: We will look beyond our own needs as we strive to be of service to others in our family, in our neighborhood and in our community and nation. There is the potential for surprising outcomes when we "pass it forward". We will take care of our own and look out for one another in times of need.

Commitment: We will be committed in our duties as mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and friends in strengthening each other and the family as a whole. As we are committed in promoting "those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society" (The Family, A Proclamation to the World, the First Presidency) our family will be blessed.

Methods: Tools to strengthen the family:
1. Regular scripture study
2. Regular Family Home Evening
3. Regular family prayer
4. Regular church attendance
5. Regular temple attendance
6. Service
7. Family reunions and get-togethers whenever possible
8. Be involved in family history work
9. Frequent phone calls and "Blogging" to stay connected

Sounds like a pretty wonderful mission statement. I guess for a mission statement to be really effective, we all have to commit and review often. We commit. And we love you. And everyone.
